I had some good feedback about the Solar Air conditioning post so I thought I would let you all know about another great innovation that I have come across which saves electricity (and therefore money) as well as making your home greener. The new innovation is Solar power roller shutters, if you are going to get roller shutters – why not have the motor be powered by the sun!

The model I have been reading about is called SolarSmart – by CW Products. Here’s a picture from the CW website explaining how it works, pretty cool:

I will say that the panel in the top corner of the shutter is not the most flattering look in the world, especially since most people get cream or beige colours for their roller shutters. This wouldn’t be an issue if you were only going to get roller shutters on windows that are not at the front of the house, e.g. some people only get shutters on bedroom windows in order to block out light at night time. Anyways, having solar panels on your house will eventually become the norm ad they won’t be an eye-sore – yes, you heard it here first, solar panels are way cool.

I have noticed a fair bit of buzz happening in Australia about Solar Air Conditioning. The technology has been around for a few years, but is really starting to gain traction with consumers in Australia – many of who have had Solar Panels installed on their roofs with the help of the Government STCs for Solar Power.
