That however has not prevented Uganda from dabbling in the science of electric cars. A team lead by Professor Stevens Tikocdri has produced an “eco car” known as the Kiira EV. The can run for 80 Km on a fully charged battery and will take as little as one hour to charge up. What is most impressive is the fact that they are aiming to have a en-product that only costs $10,000-$15,000, sounds pretty good to me.
I guess we all know that we are not going to go out today and buy an electric car, it too foreign a concept and the pricing combined with the fact that the specifications don’t really fit in with our “way of life” mean that these types of projects are merely stepping stones to an industry that may thrive one day.
I think the Ugandans deserve a pat and the back for this one and I hope to see more innovation from them in the future.
Check the video below, I think you will be inspired – I think that the message here is – it doesn’t matter who else in the World has already done it, there is still a lot to be gained by advancing innovation within your Country – no matter how small or insignificant.
